Risk Management: Are You Protected?

NCIV's Group Insurance Program Can Help

by Laura Dupuy

Did you know that NCIV offers an exclusive program for our members that will help you find the perfect Director and Officers and Employment Practice Liability Policy, and/or a Comprehensive General Liability Policy?

By participating in NCIV’s Insurance Program your Council will be eligible for extremely competitive rates, and you will have the benefit of working with an experienced professional who knows the risks and challenges that we face. In addition, by working through NCIV’s Insurance Program you will save time by working directly with an industry professional who can meet your policy and budgetary needs.

Only the very largest nonprofits in the U.S. have a person on staff with a job title like “risk manager” or “insurance manager.” Instead, the most direct responsibility for preventing or financing recovery from almost every nonprofit’s accidental losses rests on the shoulders of its Chief Executive Officer. Thus, for most of us in the NCIV network, risk management is a part-time function of someone who seemingly has a much “bigger job” to do.

Because the first step in effective risk management for any organization is to identify exposures to the potential accidental losses facing that particular organization, risk identification is one of the most crucial direct responsibilities of every Council. But one person can’t imagine — let alone actually see — all the potential accidental losses that may befall an organization.

Through Beehive Insurance Agency you can consult with Susan Smith, an Independent Agent, who specializes in nonprofit issues. In fact, Susan Smith is recommended by the Utah Nonprofit Association as an industry expert, and she is licensed in all 50 states.

You don’t need to wait until your current insurance policy expires. You may call Susan today to discuss your insurance needs and evaluate your existing coverage. Once I met with Susan and learned how much more I was paying through an agent unfamiliar with nonprofits, I was able to cancel my existing policy, receive a refund for the unused amount, and get a policy at a cheaper rate with the coverage that I needed to protect my organization.

If you would like to learn more, please contact Susan. There is no obligation, and I know that you will find, as I have, that she can answer all of your questions about everything you ever wanted to know about nonprofit insurance.
