Serve as a Citizen Diplomat When You Volunteer Locally

Would you like to serve as a citizen diplomat and host foreign leaders visiting your community? NCIV's community-based members throughout the United States offer unique opportunities to engage in citizen diplomacy with participants in the U.S. Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program and other exchanges.

NCIV members rely on volunteers (Time commitments range from an hour to an evening to providing a month-long homestay.) to share the best of what their communities have to offer. Through an NCIV member, you can:

  • Serve as a professional resource, meeting with leaders from other countries in your professional field, exchanging ideas and methods, and making valuable connections;

  • Serve as a home host for a meal, an event, or an overnight stay;

  • Serve as a driver accompanying visitors on their appointments;

  • Serve as a cultural tour guide helping visitors explore your community and its surroundings;

  • Serve as a volunteer programmer organizing the schedule of activities in your community for international visitors;

  • Serve as an office volunteer or handle essential administrative/management task;

  • Serve as a Board member after working with the organization in other capacities;

  • Serve as a supporter making your own financial contribution and enlisting the help of others who want to support expanded opportunities for citizen diplomacy.

  • If any of this interests you, please contact the NCIV member in your community to see how you can serve.

''There is a debt of service a man owes to his country in proportion to the bounty that nature and fortune have bestowed upon him.''
~Thomas Jefferson
