The annual appropriations process to fund federal government programs is now underway in Washington, D.C.  Both House and Senate Appropriations Committees will soon be writing their bills to fund the U.S. Department of State exchanges account for fiscal year (FY) 2009.

Please take a moment today to contact the Legislative Aide responsible for working on U.S. State Department appropriations in your Representative or Senator’s Washington, DC office.  If you do not know the name of the Legislative Aide, please contact the district office.

Using these sample letters for the Senate and the House and talking points as your starting point, please write your Senators and Representatives TODAY and urge them to restore the number of foreign leaders participating in the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) to 5,000 (a core IVLP budget of $99 million is needed), and to support $600 million for all U.S. Department of State educational and cultural exchanges in FY 2009.  The President’s initial request was $522.444 million.

Please fax your letter directly or send it to your district office so that they may forward it to the Washington, DC office.

As with all correspondence with the Hill, be sure to copy Sherry Mueller at smueller@nciv.org.  Please contact us with any questions or suggestions you may have.  Thank you for your help.  You truly can make a difference.
